School Recycling Competition
Five area schools recently competed in Greensylvania School Recycling Competition. The competition was modeled after the national Recylcemania Competition that takes place on college campuses across the nation. Competing schools included Beaver Main Elementary, Central Columbia Elementary, Central Columbia Middle School and High School, and Columbia-Montour AVTS. The winner was determined by taking the weight of all the paper delivered from a school during the month of October and dividing it by the population of the school to determine a per capita amount. A total of 3,870 pounds was diverted from the landfill and recycled during the competition. The winning school, Columbia-Montour AVTS, was awarded a recycled office paper plaque. The competition is currently being done on a county to county basis with plans to become statewide.

Pictured in the photo are Kelsey Armstrong, Marcus Coulter, Samuel Sassaman, Bryanna Gearhart, Mr. David Bacher (Principal), and Mr. Charles Fritz Bloomsburg Recycling Coordinator.
