The Adult Education Program at CMAVTS serves, on an average, three to four hundred adults. The courses offered are for both the beginner and the advanced student. Course offerings may include any or all of the vocational-technical areas offered at the secondary level. Adults participating in these programs may be preparing for a new career or improving their knowledge and skills in their current job. Courses are taught by qualified instructors with many years of experience in their field.
This program is aimed at and intended for adults and offers them unique educational opportunities for a minimal fee. Evening sessions are normally conducted three times each school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring with additional summer sessions based on public response. Courses offered at CMAVTS range from three hour classes to forty-six hours. Upon completion of the course, students receive a Certificate of Completion from CMAVTS and in some classes a state certification.
We also provide quality training programs to industries and businesses in the area. The primary aim of the Industry Education Program at CMAVTS is to coordinate training programs which are tailored to meet the needs of a particular business or industry. Programs vary in length and format depending upon the needs of the situation. Columbia-Montour AVTS personnel coordinate the details of the program including assisting with the design of the course, finding qualified instructors from within the school or community, and locating appropriate funding sources to subsidize the cost of training. Additionally, locations of classrooms and dates and times for programs are adjusted to meet employer needs. Expanding evening adult education course offerings to include topics requested by one or more firms is always an option.
Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School's Adult & Industry Education program endeavors to:
- Continue and expand our program to offer a wide variety of comprehensive and high quality instruction in career and technical training as well as personal enrichment;
- Develop skills to further education and employment opportunities for adults in Columbia and Montour counties;
- Create and conduct customized training programs for local business and industry.
The Adult & Industry Education Department is open weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
