    Machining Technology

    Machinist are highly skilled men and woman. They use drawings,hand tools, precision measuring tools, drilling machines, grinders, lathes, milling machines and other specialized machine tools to shape and finish metal and nonmetal parts. Machinist must have a sound understanding of basic and advanced machining technology, which includes:


    * Proficiency in safely operating machine tools of
    various types (manual,automatic, and computer
    controled).
    * Knowledge of the working properties of metals and
    nonmetals.
    * The academic skills (math, science, English,
    print reading, metallurgy, etc.)needed to make
    precision layouts and machine set-ups.

    Freshman:

    This is an introductory course, offering the student an opportunity to learn some basic machining skills. The prospective student will learn basic blue print reading, use of files and hand hacksaw, drill press operation, lathe operation and milling operation. There will be a total of seven projects to be completed in the nine week program. Safety will be stressed while in the shop.
