Notice of possible teacher strike

The Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School Joint Operating Committee (JOC) remains committed to serving the best interests of our students, families, teachers, and administrators. We recognize the concerns surrounding the possibility of a teacher strike and want to provide an update on the ongoing negotiations between CMAVTS and the Education Association.
The JOC continues to make every effort to reach a fair and equitable agreement with the Education Association. Our goal is to negotiate a contract that appropriately compensates and retains our professional staff while ensuring the long-term financial stability of the school and preserving the quality of the educational programs and opportunities available to our students.
As part of this process, the JOC approved the complete fact-finding report several months ago. Fact-finding is a formal step in the collective bargaining process in which a neutral third party reviews the positions of both parties and provides recommendations intended to help resolve outstanding contract issues. The JOC's approval of the complete report reflects its participation in this process and its continued efforts to move negotiations forward toward a resolution. Throughout negotiations, the JOC has continued to pursue opportunities to reach an agreement and resolve the outstanding issues. We remain hopeful that both parties can reach a mutually acceptable settlement that avoids a work stoppage and allows our school community to continue its important work without interruption.
We understand that the possibility of a strike creates uncertainty for students, families, and staff. Should a strike occur, CMAVTS will communicate information regarding the impact on school operations and any necessary next steps. Updates will be shared through the school's official website and social media channels.
Our priority remains providing students with a high-quality technical education while working toward a fair and sustainable agreement with our professional staff.
