CMAVTS Comprehensive model study FAQ
CMAVTS Comprehensive CTE Model Study FAQ
Why did CMAVTS complete a model study?
The study was conducted to evaluate the long-term effectiveness, sustainability, and efficiency of CMAVTS’s current comprehensive CTE model and to explore alternative scheduling and instructional models that may better serve students, sending schools, and workforce needs.
What prompted the study?
Factors included:
• Student enrollment trends
• Workforce and industry demand
• Transportation and scheduling challenges
• Financial sustainability
• Facility utilization and future renovation needs
• Alignment with modern CTE delivery models
What models were reviewed?
What types of CTE delivery models were examined?
The study reviewed several instructional models, including:
• Full-day comprehensive model
• Half-day/shared-time model
• Alternating-day schedules
• Hybrid academic/CTE approaches
• Models that include academic teachers onsite
• Models where academics remain at sending schools
Did the study recommend eliminating programs?
The purpose of the study was to evaluate delivery models and operational structures, not to immediately eliminate programs. Any future program decisions would involve additional review and input.
Transportation & Scheduling
Why was transportation included in the study?
Transportation is one of the largest operational considerations for a regional CTE center. The study examined:
• Current transportation costs
• Bus scheduling efficiencies
• Impact on sending school schedules
• Student travel time
• Feasibility of alternative scheduling models
Would a half-day model impact sending schools?
Potentially. Alternative schedules could require adjustments to:
• Bell schedules
• Student transportation windows
• Academic course sequencing
• Extracurricular participation
No decisions have been finalized.
Academics at CMAVTS
Why did the study evaluate academic teachers at CMAVTS?
The study explored whether offering academic instruction onsite could:
• Increase scheduling flexibility
• Reduce transportation challenges
• Expand student access to programs
Does this mean CMAVTS will hire academic teachers?
No decision has been made. The study evaluated costs, benefits, staffing implications, and
operational impacts as part of long-range planning.
Facilities & Renovations
Why were facilities included in the study?
Different instructional models affect how facilities are used. The study evaluated:
• Classroom and lab capacity
• Shop utilization
• Shared learning spaces
• Student support areas
• Potential renovation or expansion needs
Will renovations occur immediately?
No immediate renovations are planned solely on the basis of the study. Any future capital projects would require:
• Board approval
• Financial planning
• Stakeholder input
Did the study identify future facility needs?
Yes. The study reviewed potential long-term facility considerations related to enrollment growth, instructional delivery, and modernization of technical learning environments.
Financial Impact
Did the study analyze costs?
Yes. The study reviewed:
• Transportation costs
• Staffing models
• Operational efficiencies
• Facility renovation considerations
• Long-term financial sustainability
Will this increase costs for sending schools?
No decisions regarding financial changes have been made. The study was intended to provide information for future planning discussions.
Student Impact
How will students be affected?
At this time, no immediate changes are being implemented. The study serves as a planning tool to help ensure future decisions support:
• Student access
• Career readiness
• Academic success
• Workforce alignment
• Equitable opportunities
Will students still participate in extracurricular activities?
Maintaining student access to extracurriculars and school activities was considered as part of the scheduling review process.
Decision-Making Process
Has CMAVTS made any decisions based on the study?
The study provides information and recommendations only. Any future changes would require:
• Board review
• Administrative planning
• Collaboration with sending schools
• Stakeholder engagement
Who will be involved in future discussions?
Future discussions may include:
• CMAVTS administration
• Joint Operating Committee (JOC)
• Sending school districts
• Community and industry partners
Next Steps
What happens next?
CMAVTS leadership, Sending District Superintendents, and the JOC will review the findings and determine whether additional exploration, planning, or stakeholder engagement is needed
Transparency & Communication
Where can I review information about the study?
Information regarding the study, presentations, and updates will be shared through CMAVTS communication channels and public meetings when appropriate.
